What technology and parameters needed to consider when we start to design a slip ring (1/8 )

Time: 14, 07 2022 Views: 181

The conductive slip ring is an electromechanical device that allows the transmission of power and electrical signals from a stationary to a rotating structure. And it also called rotary electrical interfaces, rotating electrical connectors, collectors, swivels, traveller or electrical rotary joints. A slip ring can be used in any eletromechanical system that requires rotation while transmitting power or electrical signals. It can improve mechanical performance, simplify system operation and eliminate damage-prone wires danging from movable joints.

If we want to design a slip ring for special electromechanical system, these technical parameters should be confirmed firstly.

First of the Technical Parameter is Rater voltage and current

The rated voltage is also called the working voltage. It mainly caused by the insulating material used by the machine and the distance between the contact pairs. Some machinery parts or components can not be able to work due to functions when the voltage is lower than their rated voltage. The connector rated voltage should in fact be regarded as the highest working voltage during the manufacturing. Normally, the connector work stably at a voltage which is lower than the rated voltage. For the connector withstand voltage index, the rated voltage should be choose based on the use environment and safely level requirements reasonably. It’s mean, the same withstand voltage index can use different maximum working voltage according to different use environments and safety requirements.

The Rated Current is also called working current. Like the rated voltage, the electromechanical generally works normally when it is lower than the rated current. In the electrical connector design process, the thermal design of the electrical connector is used to meet the rated current requirements, because when current flows through the contact pair, the contact pair will generate heat due to the presence of conductor resistance and contact resistance. When its heat exceeds a certain limit, it will destroy the insulation of the connector and form a contact to soften the surface coating, causing malfunction. So that to limit the rated current, the temperature rise inside the connector should not exceed the specified value of the design. That is why the Rater Voltage and Current is the first Technical Parameter during the slip ring researching and designing.
